Charles I
Charles I, born 1600, made King of England in 1625, and executed in
1649 at the end of the English Civil Wars. For the next ten years,
England was ruled by a Protectorate led by Oliver
Cromwell and later by his son. Charles I's son, Charles II, inherited the throne in 1660.
