Procrustes, in Greek legend, was a giant who would invite guests
to his house, but if they did not fit in his bed, he would either
stretch them or chop off their limbs until they fit. The term
"procrustean" is now used to indicate a disregard for special
circumstances in favor of an arbitrary conformity.
