box of mischief
In ancient Greek mythology, Pandora, the first woman, opened a
box or jar in which all the miseries of the world were locked,
and thus loosed them on the world. In this she is a parallel of
Eve, another woman who was the source of all ills. According to
the Greek mythographer Hesiod, Zeus instructed Hephaestus to
create woman in order to take revenge on Prometheus, who took
man's side against the rest of the gods.
