Johann Reinhold Förster
Johann Reinhold Förster, 1728-98, German explorer and
botanist. He accompanied Captain Cook in his journey through the
South Seas and made extensive botanical observations reported in
his Observations Made During a Voyage Round the World
(London, 1778). He was appointed Professor of Natural History at
Halle in 1780.
