Fabricius
Fabricius, a third-century B.C.E. Roman citizen, was famous
for being incorruptible, and criticized Rome for its lapse from
military splendor into effeminate luxury. Rousseau invokes his ghost
in A Discourse on the Sciences and the Arts (1750).
