Cape of Horn

Cape Horn is the southernmost point of South America, a windy and rocky promontory in Tierra del Fuego in southern Chile.

As with the Cape of Good Hope, the weather in Cape Horn (Spanish Cabo de hornos) makes for treacherous sailing. Before the opening of the Panama Canal, however, it was the only sea route from the eastern to the western seaboards of the United States.
