L'amour propre. L'amour de soi mème.
L'amour propre, or simple egotism, corresponds to what
Wollstonecraft calls "the ignorant calculations of weakness,"
l'amour de soi-même to "the pursuit of a natural and
reasonable desire." The terms are central in the works of Rousseau.
Soi mème is Wollstonecraft's error for
soi-même.
