Mary Shelley reverts to the characteristic (and problem) of human
curiosity first broached in Walton's Letter 1.2 and continued in
the opening chapter of Victor's narrative. Late in the novel Walton's
curiosity will also function to establish for the first and only time a
momentary bridge between Victor's Creature and humanity (Walton 13).
