Percy Shelley describes Chamonix in History of a Six Weeks' Tour, Letter IV. The layout of Chamonix, looking down from Mont Blanc, in the standard nineteenth-century guidebook, Edward Whymper's Chamonix and the Range of Mont Blanc (London: John Murray, 1896).
