Bering Straits

The Bering Straits (Russian Proliv Beringa) link the Arctic Ocean with the Bering Sea between Alaska and Siberia.

The Straits were an important part of searches for the Northeast Passage. They were first sailed in 1728 by the Dane Vitus Bering; severe winter storms and thick sea ice, however, made navigation difficult.
