Stephen Hales

Stephen Hales, 1677-1761, English botanist and chemist.

His Vegetable Staticks (1727), a report on Hales's experiments on plant respiration and transpiration, is considered the first work of plant physiology. A few years later he published Hæmostaticks (1733), which developed the work of William Harvey by describing the pressure and velocity of blood in the veins.
