Thomas Gray

Thomas Gray, 1716-1771, English poet.

Gray wrote several of the most famous poems in the English language, including "Ode on a Distant Prospect of Eton College" (1742, published 1747) and "An Elegy Written in a Country Church-Yard" (1751). A close friend of Horace Walpole, Gray was an early enthusiast for Gothic literature.
