Lodovico Ariosto

Ludovico Ariosto, 1474-1533, Italian poet.

Ariosto was one of the most influential poets of the Italian Renaissance. He began his career in the diplomatic service of Cardinal Ippolito d'Este, serving as liaison to Popes Julius II and Leo X. He is best known for his romantic epic poem, Orlando Furioso (1516-1532), but his satires and comedies were well received and widely influential.
